One correction - Mann wasn’t lead author but is half-way down the authors list. He was however the spokesperson for the trial in New Zealand.
The trial does accurately represent the modern Chinese diet - most of the soy grown in the former Amazon rainforest goes to china for processing to oil and various other more-or-less toxic byproducts.
The rest of the diet wasn’t even described - how poor is that? You discover an “unhealthy” diet but don’t tell us what the sources of protein, fibre, carbohydrate were?
Obviously if the diets were different in types of fibre this could also affect the microbiome.
